Tale of Two Tugs

This cartoon illustrates what

Jesus said in

Matthew 6:1

Don't be a show-off when you do good deeds.

At a place on the river where there was a

dangerously fast current ( they're called rapids )

and some big boulders that could

damage boats - tug #1 was given

an important job.

He was used to help other boats get through the rapids.

One day, tug #1 discovered he had a whistle -

and when he blew his whistle -

people would look at him.

The poor tugboat didn't notice that when

he used his steam for his whistle - he

didn't have enough steam to do his job.

Like most excesses - tug #1 used his whistle

excessively --

and one day it sank him.

Tug #2 worked on that same rapid - but

unlike tug #1 - she hardly ever blew her whistle -

and when she did, it was appropriate.

She lived a happy river life and was eventually

retired to a quiet bay where her owner

used her to host picnics and parties.
